Advocacy and Stakeholder Affairs Manager

Position Summary and Requirements: The key measures of success for the Manager are to inform and participate in key policy areas including increasing production of infill development, increasing the economic performance of businesses, improving public safety, and increasing the use of active and public transportation through research, communications campaigns, and public presentations/testimony;; create and build relationships with partner agencies, industry based organizations, and neighborhood associations; and to generate materials to educate stakeholders on key policy initiatives; and support stakeholder affairs by navigating permitting and political matters on behalf of stakeholders.  

Qualified Managers have successful supervisory experience of staff or consultants, are able to support to committees of board members and expert community members, have experience with research and budget management, operate with high integrity to uphold company policies and can plan program performance to generate specific outcomes. Managers bring recommendations to their supervisor for greater efficiency and service delivery in the organization.  

Basic Employment Qualifications: All Candidates should have no less than five years minimum with a preferred seven years of relevant professional experience. All candidates should have experience with Word Processing, Excel and email programs, ability to navigate project management software, experience working in or adjacent to public policy efforts including research, the ability to speak, read and clearly write in English, the ability to lift up to 40 pounds and be able to remain on their feet outdoors for up to 10 hours per day in potentially inclement weather (would be very, very unlikely for this position but could occur if you were supporting an advocacy event).. All candidates should anticipate pre-employment background checks, driving record checks, and non-cannabis drug screening, with the potential for ongoing drug screening based on job tasks. High school diploma or GED is required with a bachelor’s degree in a relevant area of study preferred. Reliable personal transportation is required as is a valid driver’s license.  

Work Environment: The work environment is located primarily inside and consists of completing tasks involving project management, communications, and advocacy. Conditions can range to include working outside in all types of inclement weather. Must be able to work around varying degrees of noise. Interruptions to work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. Must be able to work under stressful conditions.  

Benefits: This is a full-time, exempt position at no less than 40 hours per week. Schedule is generally Monday through Friday, 8 am until 5 pm, however there are regular variations for public and evening meetings. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Advocacy and Policy Management:
    • Following the established positions related to Midtown’s goals for infill housing development, the economic performance of businesses, improving public safety, and increasing the use of active transportation, conduct research on how policies can be improved and deliver communications efforts to improve them at the local and state level.
    • This includes tracking existing data related to development, sales tax, transportation, and public safety, listening to stakeholder concerns via surveys and committees to see common opportunities for improvement, generating written materials for position letters and grant applications to support these improvements, providing letters of support or opposition to elected offices, providing public testimony at various meetings, and creating materials to educate stakeholders on the outcomes of these efforts which may include enewsletters, social media, press releases, editorials, and meetings.
    • This includes collaborating with industry groups by participating in meetings and sharing information. These groups include the joint PBID coalition, metro chamber and housing coalitions, and two neighborhood associations
  • Business Resource and Stakeholder Affairs:  Report to Business Improvement District (BID) and Property Based Improvement District (PBID) committees on resources and efforts to support tenants and businesses. Respond to and manage stakeholder requests that may include interfacing with city and county departments to resolve issues that pertain to our four areas of policy focus.
